Tawseah

An embodiment of Bahrain's Vision 2030 Initiative the commissioning of Tawseah, the Third Central Gas Plant (CGP III) was a major advancement in Bahrain's Oil and Gas Sector and hailed as one of the most important, pioneering strategic projects undertaken by the Kingdom of Bahrain ensuring the sustainability of economic growth and the advancement of the national economy.

In accordance with the directives of the wise governance led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain undertook extensive studies of the economic feasibility for establishing a new gas plant project in the Bahrain field.

In 2008, the legal framework for the expansion project was developed, and became an independent Company owned %100 by the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain, represented by Oil and Gas Holding Company “Nogaholding”, headed by His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Directors and named the Bahrain National Gas Expansion Company “TAWSEAH”. The Expansion Company facilities are managed and operated by Banagas.

Tawseah serves to promote oil production from the Bahrain Oil field, treat associated gas and the extraction of marketing products, propane, butane and naphtha, and their supply to local industries with surplus gas, in addition to creating jobs and training Bahraini citizens.

The Tawseah plant is equipped with inlet gas treating, mercury removal, gas sweatening, dehydration, NCL recovery, liquids fractionation, LPG treating, acid and residues gas compression as well as the ability to re-compress and inject excess gas into the field.

January 2016: Contract Signing

In January 2016, the contract for the establishment of the third gas plant project was signed between Bahrain National Gas Expansion Company and Japan’s JGC, which includes all the engineering works and the purchase of the necessary materials for the project worth 355 million dollars with a capacity of 350 million cubic feet per day.

May 2016: Ground Breaking Ceremony

A ground breaking attended by HE Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa Minister of Oil, Dr. Shaikh Mohamed Bin Khalifa Al-Khalifa CEO Banagas and representatives from JGC Gulf International company ceremony was held to commemorate launch Tawseah's pioneering facilities.

October 2016: Pipeline Contract Signing

In addition to the facilities for the construction of the third gas plant project, in October 2016, an agreement was signed between Bahrain National Gas Expansion Company and JGC Gulf International Company Limited for the construction of pipelines and the expansion of storage facilities at Sitra port with a total value of US $ 98.7 million and a capacity storage of 200 thousand barrels of propane and 100 thousand barrels of butane.

The total value of financing the third gas plant project reached US $645 million led by an alliance between local and regional banks.

December 2016: Construction Begins

November 2018: Production Begins

April 2019: Inauguration Ceremony

On 14th April 2019 ,His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, inaugurated the Bahrain Gas Plant (CGP III) of the Bahrain National Gas Expansion Company.
